I choose to view my story through the lens of grace, as expressed in St. Paul’s simple yet profound phrase: “Grace is enough”.
Life is like a diamond, each facet representing a different phase. St. Paul’s words serve as a polishing cloth, wiping away the tarnish that hinders the diamond from shining. This verse has been a touchstone, in each chapter of life, reminding me of who I am and who God is. Over the years, it has grounded me in my identity and expanded my heart to receive the reality of God’s love.
At 15, this verse was a glorious awakening to God’s presence in the midst of a lukewarm Catholic culture that had grown complacent to the hope of the Resurrection.
At 18, it became a promise that I was not defined by my weaknesses but by God’s love. As I confronted my own brokenness, I realized Christ, especially through the Sacraments, could truly make all things new.
At 19, this verse was my strength in the face of persecution on my college campus and Division 1 soccer team. It inspired me to remain steadfast and hopeful as I battled temptation and secularism.
At 22, it was a challenge to ungodly self-reliance and an invitation to embrace my true identity as a daughter of God. This verse showed me that Christ didn’t want me to simply do good things for Him but to allow Him to accomplish even greater things through me.
At 23, it was a light guiding me through the darkness as I entered a season of deep healing. As I confronted past wounds, St. Paul gave me the courage to take off all the masks I had been hiding behind throughout my life..
At 25, it was an invitation to leave comfort behind and say yes to a mission. After years of prayer and preparation, I gave away all my possessions and uprooted my life in the United States to move to Madrid, Spain.
At 27, this verse was the wind beneath my wings, carrying me down the aisle into my vocation. My heart overflowed with gratitude beyond words as I found friends, community, my husband, and the earthly home I had longed for but never thought could exist.
Today I seek to live this verse every day, embracing the ordinary moments as opportunities to marvel at the mosaic God is masterfully crafting. My desire in life is to awaken every soul I encounter to the extraordinary presence of God in the seemingly ordinary moments of their lives.
