Jason & Rachel Bulman

Jason grew up Catholic and faithful. Mass every Sunday. Loving parents and sister. Catholic elementary school, middle school, and high school. And I was a pastor’s kid, adopted from the Philippines by Assemblies of God missionaries and raised with a very devout Christian faith. When Jason was in college, it was his first real experience away from home and he took advantage of that and went wayward for a few years. He had gotten into a very serious relationship that eventually fell flat and left him heartbroken. Through that broken heart, he found the Church and for some reason, he picked up the rosary and started praying it. After a few weeks, he found himself attending Mass again, and he knew it was time for reconciliation. He approached a priest after Mass one day and asked to go to confession. He remembers that they ducked into the gift shop, and Jason knelt on his knees, took out a piece of paper which he had filled with everything he wanted to confess, and he received absolution. When it was over, the priest was stunned. “What made you come here? What made you return to the Church?’ Jason shared a bit of his story and the priest told him, “Our Lady brought you back.”

Meanwhile, I was in college and helping with a Protestant campus ministry. Very passionate about my faith but I grew pretty stagnant after college. Fast forward a couple of years after college, sitting in a smoky bar and I looked up to see a guy that looked just like Keanu Reeves (Matrix Keanu, not John Wick Keanu lol). That turned out to be Jason.

Shortly after we started hanging out, I was leaving work and a friend from work asked me if the guy I was dating was a Christian. I said yes and asked her if her new boyfriend was Christian…she said “No, he’s Catholic.” There are so many funny details about that conversation but it was the beginning of our search for the truth which eventually lead to the Catholic Church.
