I am the only Catholic in my family. I often say that there is absolutely no reason that I should be Catholic. I was never exposed to it, it was never something I knew about - but somehow, here I am. My mom sent me to a Catholic school because she thought I would get a better education, and I thank her to this day.
I was 7 years old when my grade 2 teacher asked me if I wanted to receive my first communion with the rest of my class. I was young, but in my heart I knew there was something deeper. I received my first communion with the rest of my class and started going to mass once a month by myself.
The moment I really decided that Jesus was going to be everything I lived for was at my confirmation. Leading up to my Confirmation I took it semi-seriously, but my heart shifted as I was walking down the aisle towards the altar. As the Priest sealed me with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, I knew that I wanted to live my life for God. There was a lot I had to learn about the Church, the Bible, the Mass, etc.
I was so blessed to have my youth ministry to lean on and learn from - but I knew for sure that no one could teach me that Jesus loves me and that He died for me. Jesus came into my life, a life that was completely absent of Him and loved me. If He can do that for me He can do that for anyone, you are never too far gone.
