God is AMAZING!

I grew up in a Catholic family, but I never heard anyone talk about their relationship with God. I had a relationship with God, however, I didn't know how all the pieces of the Catholic faith fit together and even though God was important to me, I was uncomfortable with anyone knowing it. I also didn’t know who I was and didn’t have confidence to be the person God created me to be.

When I started university I decided to go to Mass on campus, there I met one of my best friends. She invited me to get involved with the Catholic club, and although I had an experience of God’s Presence and love earlier in the semester, I still didn’t join the club at first because I saw it as “too Catholic”. Second semester I attended my first faith study, which was a whole new experience for me. It was the first time that I experienced a community of faith and listened to a young person share about their personal relationship with God. The faith study culminated with my decision to make God the centre of my life, and it was followed by an event called World Youth Day (a gathering of Catholic young adults from all over the world). Both of these radically changed my relationship with God.

a) I realized that God loved me personally, and that He had great plans for my life. Over the past 7 years, this gave me the courage to grow into the person that God created me to be. I know who I am as His beloved daughter, with all my gifts, and shortcomings, and I can now live my life with that confidence.

b) During my World Youth Day trip I also realized that although I didn’t understand it at the time, that the Eucharist really was Jesus.

c) I also realized that God is the source of joy and fulfillment. God is the source of the love, joy, peace, and fulfillment that I experience in my life, especially through daily mass, prayer, and adoration, and regular confession.

Initially after I put Christ at the centre of my life I prayed consistently, and would discern big decisions but I didn’t share my faith with others. The summer between my undergrad and my masters, I worked as a Totus Tuus missionary. That summer I embraced my missionary identity and consecrated myself to Jesus through Marian Consecration. The first year of my masters I was trained to share my faith as a CCO Connect leader and in sharing about Jesus my faith life took on a vibrancy it never had before. A year later I was offered my job as the campus minister for Brock, and I started working in the position full-time September 2019.

God has proven time and time again how He provides for me, how His plans are always WAY more amazing than anything I could ever come up with, and I have accomplished things that wouldn’t have been possible without God. I love God, I know I am loved by Him, and I want everyone to realize how much God loves them too.

Some other fun facts about me are: I completed an undergrad in biochemistry and a masters in biotechnology. I love dancing. I have a Rubik’s Cube collection. I shaved my head in 2nd year at a Relay for Life Event. I was 98% sure that I was called to religious life for about 5 years, then God threw a curveball last year. Now I don’t know my vocation, I’m just focused on saying yes to the Lord’s Will each day. If I become a saint I would want to become the patron saint of hugs. I work as the Catholic campus minister at Brock University and I love my job!
