John Cannon
Growing up, I craved recognition and validation. I pushed myself to excel, going to prestigious institutions like Harvard and Oxford. I advised politicians and worked on billion-dollar deals as an investment banker.
But I also saw the shadow side of high-octane business culture which was primarily a-moral, and primarily driven by making money and becoming successful.
At one of my lowest points, God in his mercy allowed me to have an intense and transformative encounter with Him. I felt Him inviting me to change.
I left the fast-paced life I was leading the and entered a Carmelite monastery where I spent 7.5 years as a Carmelite friar.
About 6 years into my time with the Carmelites I felt God inviting me to harness my experience and gifts in “the real world.” The Catholic faith had changed my life and I hoped that others could experience some of what I had tasted.
I discerned to not continue in the monastery, left with nothing, and worked out of my aunt’s basement building SENT, a community for founders and leaders seeking radical holiness and impact.
I also recently started working on Monk Mindset to share what I learned in the monastery to help people transform and simplify their lives.
Ultimately, my journey has been about transformation and purpose. I’ve learned that true fulfillment comes not from recognition or success, but from living a life of meaning and service. Through SENT and Monk Mindset, I aim to inspire others to seek their own encounters with grace and embrace authentic transformation.
