Trevor Wayman

Hello, everyone! My name is Trevor Wayman and I am from Mulvane, KS. I work with FOCUS as a Varsity Catholic missionary. Currently in my second year on staff serving at University of Mary in Bismarck, ND with my first year at Fort Hays State in western Kansas! My journey begins like any regular small town Kansas kid. I grew up hunting, fishing, playing all the sports and rampaging through the creeks in town. Sports, primarily baseball, started dominating my life and becoming my god very unbeknownst to me. I was raised in a cradle Catholic family with four siblings, 1 older sister and 3 younger brothers, and was standard going to mass on Sundays. I always loved going to mass growing up especially once high school hit. But during baseball season missing was always a thing for me and never really considered it being bad. I got a scholarship to play college baseball fulfilling my childhood dream and this is where things started changing fast. I hurt my shoulder senior season year of high school and prayed it would go away. It only got worse and on January 14, 2015 of my freshman year of college I threw out my shoulder ending my career. My "god" was gone, I almost never went to mass and started looking for fulfillment in all the wrong places. I transferred to Wichita State and joined a fraternity. Long story short, issues of alcohol and typical punk Fraternity mistakes came into play and grieving loss of family unity I lived in that lifestyle for 4 years until April 2019. I had a 3 week stretch where I was in a perpetual state of sobbing and pleading God to fix some mistakes I made. My life from that moment took a drastic turn towards God and all the things the FOCUS missionaries at WSU kept telling me made sense. Momma mary, her rosary, confession and a habit of daily Eucharistic adoration changed and continue to change my life. I worked for Catholic Heart Work Camp summer 2019 and sold out on mission ever since. I knew FOCUS since August 2019 was going to be my future and never looked back. I’m still in so much need of grace, in need of Jesus Himself. I am still far from perfect. Honestly, to be living this life I’m living now is no short of a miracle.

Aside from that, I LOVE duck hunting, Kentucky Bourbon, Poetry and new found love for Benedictine theology of Manual Labor! This is an extremely condensed story that I can't wait to share more with y'all and answer all the questions you may have!
